Making of Afognak
Metallic Marine Art was commissioned by the Afognak Native Corporation in 2006 to make a metal countour map of Afognak, Raspberry, and Whale Islands. The map is displayed in the museum at the new Alutiiq Headquarters building in Anchorage, Alaska. The base outline is cut from 16 gauge cold rolled steel and each elevation increase of 500 feet is depicted with an additional layer. Lakes and streams are depicted in brass. The map weighs approximately 450 pounds and is mounted on black granite tile.
